Composite decks built to fit your yard

We are deck builders based in San Antonio. Our decks are composite decks, built with Trex composite boards. Railings, stairs, skirting and built-in benches go on where your yard calls for them. Some decks sit close to the ground, and others stand high enough to need stairs.

Duck Property Care serves the San Antonio to Austin corridor, and decks are one of the outdoor spaces we build. We also handle artificial turf installation and can build a new patio. Estimates are free, and financing is available on larger projects. Call or text (512) 905-8038 to set yours up.

Deck Builders for Low Decks and Raised Decks

The right deck depends on the yard. Start with how high the back door sits above the ground. A flat yard often suits a low deck built close to the ground. A yard that drops away from the house calls for a raised deck with stairs.

We build raised decks with railings and black metal balusters. Wide stairs lead down to the yard. Under the deck, vertical composite skirting covers the open space, and access doors let you reach it. Skirting gives a raised deck a finished look from the yard.

Details change how a deck looks. A border board can frame the deck boards, and built-in benches add seating. A deck can be more than a rectangle, too. An eight-sided deck and composite boards laid down a long porch are both builds we take on.

How Composite Decking Installation Works

Composite decking installation starts with the layout. That covers the deck's size, its shape, its height and where the stairs come down. Think about how you will use the deck, since a table and chairs need more room than two seats. Stairs work best where you already walk out to the yard.

The frame is built next, and it sets the height and shape of the whole deck. Then the boards go on. We install Trex composite boards. The maker says they are made from 95% recycled materials, including reclaimed sawdust and recycled plastic.

Railings and stairs go on a raised deck, along with skirting below it. Benches are built in where you want seating. Composite boards are low maintenance once they are down. You can see our own jobs in our project photos.

Does Trex Decking Get Hot in San Antonio?

Yes, in direct sun. Trex says its decking will get hot in direct sun on hot days, as concrete and wood decking do. San Antonio averages 18 days a year of 100-plus degree heat.

Color makes a difference. The maker notes that the darker the color, the hotter the deck will feel. For hotter climates, it tells buyers to consider lighter colors.

Think about how much direct sun your deck will get before you pick a color. A deck in full afternoon sun is a good spot for a lighter board. A shaded deck leaves you more room to go darker. On the hottest days, plan on shoes for any deck in direct sun.

FAQ

Composite Decking Questions, Answered

Common questions about composite decking across the San Antonio to Austin corridor. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (512) 905-8038

How much does a composite deck cost?
The price depends on the size of the deck and how high it sits. A raised deck adds railings and stairs, which add to the cost. Estimates are free, and financing is available on larger projects. Call or text (512) 905-8038 for a price on your yard.
Do I need a permit to build a deck in San Antonio?
The City of San Antonio requires a permit for a residential deck that exceeds 300 square feet in area. A deck more than 30 inches above the ground at any point needs one as well. The city does a final inspection on a permitted deck. If you live in another city, ask its permit office what applies.
Can a composite deck be stained?
No, and it does not need to be. Trex says its boards never need painting or staining. The color and finish are built into the board's outer shell. Stain is for wood decks, and we offer deck staining as a separate service.
What upkeep does Trex decking need?
Trex says a simple soap and water clean is all it takes. Its care guide calls for warm soapy water and a soft bristle brush. The brush lifts dirt out of the pattern pressed into the boards. If the boards need more than a scrub later, our deck cleaning service covers composite decks.
Do you offer deck installation outside San Antonio?
Yes. We serve the San Antonio to Austin corridor. That covers Hill Country towns like Boerne and Bulverde, and I-35 cities like New Braunfels and San Marcos. See the towns we cover for the full list.
What should I ask deck contractors before I hire one?
Ask which boards they install and what the estimate includes. Ask whether railings and stairs are part of the price. Ask to see photos of decks they have built. We install Trex composite boards, and our estimates are free.
