Timberwood Park sits on the southern edge of the Texas Hill Country, in a humid subtropical climate. Large oak trees shade many of the original half-acre lots. That shade and the humid air keep walls and shingles damp long after a rain.
Algae grows in that damp and shows up as dark streaks on the roof. Our roof cleaning uses a soft wash with detergents that kill mold, mildew and algae at the root. Shingle roofs get low pressure only.
Shaded walls collect a green film too, most of all on the north side. House washing gets the same soft wash, with low pressure on the siding. Big oaks also drop leaves into gutters, and our gutter cleaning removes that debris.
Johann Theodor Gerfers bought the first land in the Timberwood area and began cattle and sheep ranching. In 1889 the Gerfers family sold more than 2,000 acres to rancher Richard A. Mecke. He ran it mainly as a sheep ranch. Gerfers Cemetery in Timberwood Park is now a Texas Historic Cemetery.
The Timberwood Development Company bought the northern tract of the old Gerfers/Mecke Ranch in December 1976. The southern tract followed in November 1979, and the two became Timberwood Park. The development covers 2,172 acres, and most of its 3,263 lots are half an acre. Its park holds a seven-acre lake and a six-hole golf course.
A half-acre lot often comes with a long driveway and a long walk to the door. Our driveway cleaning uses pressure washing with professional equipment on that concrete. The lots also leave room for pools and outdoor living, and our patio and pool deck cleaning covers those surfaces.
Timberwood Park saw 49 days at 100 degrees or hotter in 2022. In 2023 it saw 72. Heat and strong sun dry out fence boards and deck boards and turn them gray.
Winter brings its own wear. The area averages 17 subfreezing nights a year. From February 14 to 18, 2021, a storm dropped 9 to 10 inches of snow here. Cool, damp weeks let green growth spread on the shady side of a fence.

The original development dates to the late 1970s, and homes went up here for decades after. A rebuilt 1970s-era home can sit near one built in the 2000s. Newer communities such as Kinder Ranch and Estancia Ranch have grown up around the edges.
Timberwood Park had 2,578 residents in 1990 and 13,447 in 2010. In 2017 it was the seventh largest subdivision in Bexar County. The 2020 census counted 35,217 people in the census-designated place.
