Buda's older homes sit closer to the original downtown. Elm Grove and Whispering Hollow fill out the east side, with slightly larger lots. Whispering Hollow has established trees, and Shadow Creek has tree-lined streets. Shade like that keeps walls and roofs damp long after a rain.
Damp shingles grow algae, and it shows up as dark streaks running down the roof. Our roof cleaning is a soft wash with detergents that kill mold, mildew and algae at the root. High pressure is never used on shingle roofs or siding.

Buda stayed a small town for decades. In 1929 its population was estimated at 600. Only in the mid-1980s did the growth of Austin begin to be felt here. Buda had 1,795 people in 1990, 7,295 in 2010 and 15,108 in the 2020 census.
Today Buda is a commuter town south of Austin, and new construction dominates its housing market. Sunfield is the largest master-planned community, on the east side of the city. Garlic Creek sits closer to Main Street, and Bradfield Village sits right along I-35. Stallion Run and Shadow Creek are among the established neighborhoods.

Buda began as a rail town. On April 1, 1881, Cornelia Trimble donated land for a townsite at an International-Great Northern Railroad depot. Residents of nearby Mountain City moved to the new depot, which took the name Du Pre. That depot became the lifeblood of the town for decades.
The town supplied the surrounding dairy farms and ranches. At different times it supported mills, hotels, banks and even a cheese factory. There is still room to spread out. Ruby Ranch offers Hill Country acreage, and Persimmon has estate lots and larger acreage tracts.
Wood fences and decks turn gray as the sun weathers them, and green growth creeps along the shady side. Our deck and fence cleaning lifts that growth and grime off the boards. Once the wood is clean, fence staining and deck staining bring the color back.
The name Buda came later. In 1887, postal officials learned another Texas town was also named Du Pre, so the name was changed to Buda. The common story says it comes from the Spanish viuda, or widow. It may refer to a pair of widows who cooked at the Carrington Hotel, which served meals to railroad travelers.
Buda was incorporated in 1948. Downtown Buda now puts walkable restaurants and local shops within a few blocks of home. City leaders hope a revived downtown will draw more visitors to the Main Street area. Every April, the Buda Lions Club runs the town's wiener dog races.
